Bengaluru, Apr 30: The field work of caste census (social and educational survey) has been extended by the State Government for five more days in Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits and three more days in rest of the districts of Karnataka.
As per the original schedule, April 30 was the last day for field work for caste census.
But owing to poor coverage of households, particularly in Bengaluru, the census work has been extended till May 5 in BBMP limits and May 3 in rest of the districts.
The first extensive caste census commenced on April 11 and coverage of families in BBMP limits was 62.62 per cent, lowest in the State.
A total of 90.07 per cent of households were covered in the State as on April 29.
Addressing presspersons in Bengaluru on Thursday, Minister for Social Welfare H Anjaneya claimed that coverage of households was cent per cent in six districts - Bangalore Rural, Chikkaballapur, Hassan, Koppal, Mandya and Ramangaram.
The percentage coverage of households was 97.91 Dakshina Kannadaand 88.99 in Haveri districts.
The coverage of families was more than 90 per cent in rest of the districts.
The minister said 1.60 lakh personnel covered 1.27 crore households as on April 29 against the total households of 1.41 crore.
