Beltangady, Apr 30: Sacred Heart Credit Co-operative Society will begin functioning at Madanthyar church commercial complex in the taluk from May 1, 2015 onwards. Chief priest of Sacred Heart Church here, Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, will inaugurate the society at 10 am on Friday May 1, offer prayers, and deliver the benedictory address.
Madanthyar Sacred Heart Church happens to be one among 11 churches in Beltangady taluk. It had been set up in 1893, and is backed by a history of 122 years. It has 660 parishioners and a number of organizations and institutions function under its umbrella. Guardian Angel's Higher Primary School, which also falls under the church, and which has celebrated centenary of its existence, is immensely popular in the area.
The PU college which celebrated silver jubilee just two years back, degree college, and English medium school of the church, are also enjoy total patronage in the region. During December last, a well-equipped new high school section building and a 400 metres track were inaugurated. Foundation stones have already been laid for a new auditorium and indoor stadium.

Madanthyar church has now added a new feather to its cap. For the first time in the taluk, where history has been already created by the church in many ways in the past, a long-cherished dream of founding a co-operative society has been realized. Madanthyar town, which has been growing primarily on account of the existence of various educational institutions run by Madanthyar group of educational institutions, already has several co-operative societies, banks, and other organizations. To meet the aspirations of the people, with full-fledged support of Sacred Heart Church, this society, which is driven with the aim of achieving all-round development of backward classes in Beltangady and Bantwal taluk, has been established.
The board of directors of the society, which will be inaugurated on May 1, has already been formed. Chief priest of the church, Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, has been appointed as the chief adviser, with assistant priest, Fr Clifford Simon Pinto as adviser. Lency Pinto is the president of the society, with the post of vice president going to Blany Claire D'Souza. Cyril Sequeira, Joel Mendonca, Philomena Gonsalves, Gregory Serrao, Celestine D'Souza, Henry Moras, Leo Rodrigues, Vivek Vincent Pais, Ronald Sequeira, Leo Noronha, Felix D'Costa, Gracy D'Souza and Hubert Lobo have been elected unopposed as directors of the society.
The co-operative society's management has expressed gratefulness to Victor D'Souza (promoter), who has worked hard to collect membership and share capital of the society, Gurkars of 22 wards, Catholic Sabha, and presidents and office bearers of other organizations and institutions. On the occasion of its inaugural, the society also has expressed gratefulness to deputy registrar of co-operative societies, B K Saleem, Janardan B, development officer of co-operative societies and election returning officer at Mangaluru.
Within a matter of just three months, the society has got a membership of 879, and collected over Rs 35 lac as share capital from 2,887 shareholders. The society has been registered under Societies Act, and will continue to function from the first floor of Sacred Heart Church Commercial Complex in Madanthyar town. The society accepts different types of deposits, issues demand drafts, and provides special facilities to senior cities.
Under loan facility, it grants loans for purchase of vehicles, loans against pledge of gold ornaments, finance for small business, house construction loans, overdraft facility, for business, against national savings certificates, for house repair, and non-agricultural loans. The other advances being extended by the society are assisting, supporting, and giving loans to self help groups, accepting investment under 'Sankalpa' scheme which offers high dividend to share holders, collection of daily deposit, special schemes for loan repayment etc.

The society is fully backed by Madanthyar Sacred Heart Church management, and support of almost the entire diocese. It is located in a building with proper facilities, which is located at a central location in Madanthyar town. The society is equipped with a staff that has rich experience in the field of banking and expertise in other fields. As far as security is concerned, strong room with the use of ultra modern technology and CCTV cameras has been provided. The society lays emphasis on overall growth backed by attractive and progressive policies and aims.
The president and board of directors of the society, which has been established with the full support of Sacred Heart Church, have requested all the shareholders, members, well-wishers, and people from all religions to extend cooperation to the society, and participate in this inaugural.
