Puttur, Apr 28: Mallika (24), who had suffered severe burn injuries at her husband's house a month back due to the explosion of LPG cylinder about a month back breathed her last in a hospital at Mangaluru on April 27. This accident had taken place in Arlapadavu in Panaje village last month.
Immediately after Mallika died, this information was sent to the rural police station here by the hospital. Immediately thereafter, parents of Mallika filed a complaint with this station, claiming that their daughter had resorted to commit suicide, unable to bear the harassment she suffered at the hands of her husband.
The policemen here claim that during this one month, neither the hospital nor the parents of the woman nor her in-laws had given them any information about this incident to them.
The parents of the lady have said that Mallika had married Dhananjay from the said village about two years back, and the couple has no children. They say that Dhananjay used to inflict dowry harassment including mental torture on their daughter, and that frustrated at this, Mallika had chosen to end her life.
A case stands registered about this death in rural police station here. Police circle inspector, Anil Kulkarni, has taken up investigation. However, the police have reasons to suspect foul play in the case, as the complaint was registered after a gap of a month during which period the woman was in hospital, and not before the lady died in the hospital.
