Kasargod, Apr 25: Two trucks were gutted near Manjeshwar check post in the district on Friday April 24 evening. The locals had turned panicky, as the fire could have spread to two tankers carrying fuel and some other trucks that were parked close by, and also a petrol bunk located adjacent to the spot.
The drivers of these two trucks showed immense courage and exemplary presence of mind and saved the incident from blowing into a major tragedy.
At around 4.15 pm on Friday, a truck carrying bleaching powder to Kochi from Rajasthan caught fire initially. The fire then spread to another truck which had come from Gujarat with a load of glass sheets.
Sensing that the fire could spread to a number of trucks parked there as well as the petrol bunk in a matter of seconds, drivers of these two trucks risked their lives, and drove their trucks to a nearby open ground and parked them there. Fire brigade was then summoned. However, by the time the firemen came and extinguished the flames, one of the trucks was completely consumed by flames, while the other was partially destroyed.
