Puttur, Apr 26: Koila gram panchayat (GP) in the taluk, which has been chosen for the national award under 'Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Sashaktikaran Abhiyan', which is being given away every year by the department of panchayati raj of the union government, received the award at New Delhi on Friday April 25 evening.
As the Lok Sabha session is on, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, was busy there. In his absence, the award was handed over by panchayati raj minister, Veerender Singh, at a function held at Vigyan Bhavan in the country's capital.
On behalf of Koila GP, its president, Balakrishna Gowda Bengadapadpu, panchayat development officer, Chitravati, and Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat president, Asha Timmappa Gowda, received the award.
Minister of state in the department of panchayati raj, Nihal Chand, was present on the occasion.
At the same time, Kannur GP in Bengaluru district, Gummagola GP in Dharwad district, Gajanur in Shivamogga district, Sedam taluk panchayat in Kalaburagi, Mulbagil taluk panchayat in Kolar, and Chikkamagaluru zilla panchayat also received the awards for which they were chosen.
