Chikkamagaluru, Apr 20: Unknown persons approached a woman in a motor bike, and escaped after spraying acid on her face. The incident occurred on Saturday April 18 night ar Sringeri in the district. The woman is being treated as KMC Hospital Manipal now.
Sumana (26), daughter of Gopal, residing near Rajiv Gandhi Sanskrit College at Menase on Jayapura Road in Sringeri, runs a beauty parlour on Bharathi Street in Sringeri. She locked her parlour as usual at around 8 pm, and returned to her residence by 8.45 pm by her scooty. When she was unlocking the gate of her house, two motor bike riders approached her in a motor bike and sought to know the direction to Horanadu. Before she could respond, they suddenly threw acid from a bottle at her face, and sped away in their vehicle.
Sumana, who suffered deep burn injuries, let out loud wails, at which her family members rushed out. Already her face, eyes, and left side of her body had suffered burn injuries. She was taken to the local government hospital at once, and then to Manipal for advanced treatment. Preliminary reports suggested that one of her eyes has suffered irreparable damage, while the other eye has partly suffered.
It is learnt that Sumana, daugher of Menase Gopal, had married Ramesh from Kirukodu village sometime back. She had divorced her husband later, and began to run a beauty parlour at Sringeri and reside with her father at Menase village.
The Sringeri police have begun investigation into the case. Reportedly, two youngsters have been taken into custody on suspicion for questioning.
