Udupi, Apr 19: The newly constructed Lions BEL Burns Centre of District hospital Ajjarkad was inaugurated by health and family welfare minister, U T Khadar on Saturday April 18.
While Vinay Kumar Sorake, district in-charge minister inaugurated the male ward, M L Shanmukh, director (HR), Bharat Electronics Ltd. Bengaluru inaugurated the female ward at the same venue.
Khadar in his inaugural speech said, “BEL Company has given good message to other private sectors and proved that private sectors have a lot to contribute for society. There is a provision of free check-up for BPL card holders and 70% of fee will free for APL card holders”.
Pramod Madhwaraj and Sorake raised question about scarcity of medical staffs. The health department will put collective effort for the betterment of district hospital.
“Many people speak about the scarcity of nurses, I think, we have no shortage of medical staff. A well- equipped dialysis centre is already operational in Mangaluru and another dialysis centre will start in Udupi district within a year”, Khadar said.
Speaking to media regarding Karnataka Bandh, he said, “Public supports all public welfare schemes. The participation of people in strike from Mangaluru and Udupi is very less in such activities”.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Shobha Karandlaje said, “In Udupi, the industries are comparatively less in number and industries are centralized in Bengaluru. The up gradation of hospital and infrastructural facility should be improved. The government should provide employment opportunity in rural area for young generation. The government should also increase additional 50,000 medical seats. The state government should give free medical education”.
Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj said, “Now Congress government is recruiting more medical staff which was not done for the last eight years”.
The total cost of the construction of the new hospital was Rs 75 lacs. Bharat Electronic, Bengaluru contributed in the construction of the hospital. The programme was organized by district administration and district hospital, Udupi in association with district Lions 317C and Bharat Electronic, Bengaluru.
P Yuvaraj, CMC president, Rabindra Nayak, president of District Hospital Development committee, K Suresh Prabhu, District Lions governor, H R Shivkumar and others were present.
