Kuwait, Mar 10: The IDF-KKMA kidney awareness seminar organized by Indian Organizations to mark the World Kidney Day were held on Friday, 9th March 2007 from 6:30 p.m. till 9:20 p.m. The principal focus of the seminar titled as ‘Are Your Kidneys OK?’ is to raise awareness of chronic kidney disease and its associated cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and to draw attention to the urgent global need for early detection and prevention of chronic kidney disease.
The seminar held under the auspices of ‘Kuwait Medical Association’ is organized by ‘Kuwait Kerala Muslim Association’ (KKMA) - a social welfare organization of Indian nationals residing in Kuwait and the ‘Indian Doctors Forum’ (IDF), a professional body of Indian doctors in Kuwait.
Held at the Kuwait Medical Association Hall, the seminar was inaugurated by His Excellency the Ambassador of India to Kuwait, Mr. M. Ganapathi. The program started with recitation of Holy Quran by Munir followed by welcome by Dr. Amir Ahmed, KKMA Chairman sager Trikarpur delivered the opening remarks.
Officials from the Kuwait Medical Association and the Kuwait Nephrological Society, Kuwait Kidney Transplant Society were also present as guests of honors. Dr. Ramesh pandita, president of IDF briefed the gathering about seminar followed by inaugural address by His Excellency the Ambassador of India to Kuwait, Mr. M. Ganapathi. Guests Dr. Hussaein Al Mutairy (General Secretary- Kuwait Medical association), Dr. Mustafa Al Mousawi (Chairman- Kuwait Transplant society), Dr. Nasser Uussein Al Kandari (President- Kuwait Nephrological society) and K.N.S.Das( General Manager- UAE Exchange Center) delivered the speeches and explained the importance of the seminar.
Keynote Address on theme of seminar ‘Are Your Kidneys OK?’ was presented by Dr. Nampoori, Consultant Nephrologist and Adviser of the Indian Doctors Forum. Well known nephrologists in Kuwait Dr. Ram Kumar Gupta, Dr. Abbas Hakim, and Dr. Prasad Nair presented multimedia presentations on various topics related to causes of kidney diseases, early detection and treatment methods.
A question and answer session led by Dr. Nampoori and participated by eminent urologist Dr. Leons Joseph, Dr. Arun Narayana swami, Dr. Prasad Nair, Dr. Ram Kumar Gupta and Dr. Abbas Hakim was responded by a huge number of questions which indicated the success of seminar. A quiz session was held and winners were honored with gift hampers from Oriental restaurant. The program came to an end with vote of thanks by N.A.Muneer, president of KKMA followed by light refreshments. The program was well compered by Dr. Jagannath.
