Udupi: 'Varahi project to be dedicated by CM on April 20' - Sorake

Udupi, Apr 14: State minister for urban development, Vinay Kumar Sorake, informed that Karnataka chief minister, Siddaramaiah, will be inaugurating the first phase of Varahi irrigation project at a programme scheduled to be held at Siddapur in Kundapur taluk on April 20. He was addressing a press conference held here on Monday April 13.

He said that the function, which will be presided over by Byndoor MLA, Gopal Poojary, will begin at 10 am. Irrigation minister, M B Patil, revenue minister, V Srinivas Prasad, forest minister, Ramanath Rai, and people's representatives from the region will participate, he added.

On the same day, the chief minister will be thanked by fisher-women at Shankarnarayana for extending higher interest-free loans to them with more installments. Siddaramaiah will also lay the foundation stone for the postgraduate study centre of Mangalore University that will be set up at Belapu in the district, he added.

About the problems created to the people of the region by Udupi Power Corporation Ltd's power plant at Nandikoor, Sorake blamed the previous people's representatives. He promised to introduce multi-village drinking water project to meet water requirement of the region.

MLAs, K Gopal Poojary and Pramod Madhwaraj, Udupi Urban Development Authority chairman, Janardana Tonse, M A Gafoor, and several other leaders wee present.
