Peru striker Guerrero's tests point to dengue

Sao Paulo, April 13 (IANS): Corinthians and Peru international striker Paolo Guerrero remains in hospital after test results indicated he is suffering from dengue fever.

The 31-year-old was admitted to Sao Luiz hospital here on Saturday with high fever, nausea and aches, reports Xinhua.

"Clinical and laboratory evaluations point to dengue. However, the diagnosis still hasn't been concluded. The patient is stable and there is no prediction of when he will be released," the hospital said in a statement on Sunday.

Guerrero is almost certain to miss Corinthians' Copa Libertadores group match against defending champions San Lorenzo here on Thursday.

Capped 56 times for Peru, Guerrero is Corinthians' top scorer in 2015 with 12 goals from 17 matches.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne tropical disease whose symptoms include fever, skin rashes, headache, and muscle and joint pains. In rare cases, it can develop into a life-threatening haemorrhagic fever.
