Mangaluru, Apr 12: Capitanio Educational Institution organized 'Meya Utsav 2015', a youth leadership camp, as part of its platinum jubilee celebrations here on Sunday April 12. The programme was held under the aegis of Capitanio Sisters of Charity.
Provincial superior of Sisters of Charity Sr Matilda Monteiro inaugurated the event.
Addressing the gathering, MLA J R Lobo said, "I am happy to see the youngsters here. The youth are the assets of our nation. Swami Vivekananda said youth are the strength of the nation. There are people who have lived very short lives but made a big name, and that is because of their determination.
"The resource persons here can only guide you (students) and give essential information but you are the one who has to take interest and make things happen. I do not say that you have to enter politics but excel in any field that you choose. You have to set your priorities and goals. I wish all the best to this event," he added.
MLC Ivan Dsouza said, "I was active in ICYM and held different positions in it. I took part in such events very often and was also called as a resource person for different events. Once I came out of ICYM, I did not look back as this organization taught us all the essential leadership qualities. We have to go out of the church boundaries and serve the society. We have to support our youngsters. In this era of technology we get all the information by just one click through the internet. So we have built a mindset that we do not require anyone. We do not have social leaders in our community. Social leadership is much more important than political leadership. I congratulate the sisters of this institution on organizing such an event."
Advocate M P Noronha, who is also the secretary of Govlik Mandali said, "We can we leaders only when we have ability to attract people. This camp has been organized to build leadership qualities among students. This kind of programme should be held in future also. We want social leaders and not political leaders. 'Am I just a number or a member in this group' - our youngsters have to think about this."
Sr Matilda Monteiro, provincial superior of Sisters of Charity said, "Youngsters are the real assets of our society. I pray and wish you (students) all success as you are the ones who have to take our nation forward. Use your talent, make use of every possible opportunity. Dream and work towards making your dreams true. You are the pillars of this nation. Stay away from bad habits. To succeed in life keep the right aim. Never forget your parents and take care of them. I wish all of you success in life."
Fr Ronald D'Souza, Praveen Chandra Alva, corporator, Sr Theres Mari, head of Capitanio Educational Institutions and Sr Anitha Pinto, convener of Meya Utsav, noted compere Leslie Rego and others were present.
Leslie Rego and Roman Lobo were among the resource persons who gave tips on leadership qualities to students.
