Mangaluru, Apr 8: A meeting was conducted under the leadership of district minister B Ramanath Rai regarding social and educational census here at DC’s office on Wednesday April 8.

Representatives of different communities took part in the meeting and there was discussion on various issues. The meeting was mainly called to give adequate information about the social and educational census and to create awareness among the different communities.

District minister Ramanath Rai said, “The survey is to get clear statistics on different communities and literacy rate. On the basis of this survey, different benefits will be provided to people and create social equality among different communities”.

Answering the questions of representatives of different communities, authorities said, “If there are inter caste married couples, their religion will be selected after taking their details and their children's religion will be on the basis of their father’s religion. If a respondent refuses to state the caste or state that he or she does not belong to any caste or they do not know their caste then the enumerator would record them under the relevant codes in the order of 44444, 22222 and 33333. Enumerators would ask 55 questions. They would have to visit such houses again if the houses were found locked or the key person for answering the questions are not available. This will avoid any confusion regarding their religion”.

To make the survey successful, district minister Rai urged everyone to give clear and right information to the enumerators.

Health minister UT Khadar, deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim, Idya, CEO ZP, Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, commissioner of MCC, Jacintha Alfred, Mayor of MCC and Sathish Kumpala were present.
