Mangaluru, Apr 6: D B Mehta, chairman of Allegro Ventures India, on Monday April 6 took charge as the president of CREDAI Mangaluru in a befitting ceremony held at Hotel Deepa Comforts here.
He took over the charge from outgoing president Pushparaj Jain.
Along with Mehta, the new office-bearers - Dheeraj Amin as vice-president, Naveen Cardoza as secretary, Vinod Pinto as joint secretary and Errol Pinto as treasurer, along with the executive committee consisting of Sanath Shetty, Srinath Hebbar, Arshad, Siraj Ahmed, Hyder Ali and Laxmeesh Bhandary also took charge.
Addressing the gathering, Pushparaj Jain said, "In May 2013, P M Razak transferred the post of president to me. I was frightened as construction is a difficult industry. To be president of such an association is a difficult task. I am happy today that I have completed two years successfully.
"All the members of CREDAI supported me and now we have got a new office for ourselves. We always had a problem of space in the previous office. When the president of Karnataka CREDAI came to Mangaluru to inaugurate the new office, he said it was a better office than the one in Bengaluru," he added.
New president D B Mehta said, "CREDAI is promoting real estate business and as of now there are 56 members in Mangaluru. When adding new members CREDAI sees to it that the builder has completed at least one building with occupancy certificate. Real estate business is going through tough times. I urge politicians to include builders in the policy making process."
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel in his address lauded CREDAI and said, "Today CREDAI has contributed a lot to Mangaluru city. Ever since CREDAI came into existence, builders have followed laws more strictly. We are not against industrialists or industrialization but there is a need to know how much industrialization is required where and when. We have to develop tourism. Our district has religious tourism spots but the coastline needs to be developed in order to boost tourism. Mangaluru should be promoted for industries. We have already taken up several development projects like upgradation of the central railway station to international standards, and transforming Mangaluru into a Smart City."
J R Lobo congratulated the new president and said, "Today D B Mehta has taken charge of CREDAI. It is not easy to take everyone together, and it is not only about taking the organization together but also striving for the development of Mangaluru. CREDAI members look very comfortable on the outside but their lives are not so easy, as construction business is a very difficiult one. I congratulate CREDAI for standing firm and facing all problems in a determined way. I congratulate Pushparaj Jain and his team for developing CREDAI into such a good association. A city can grow only through investment - let us see how we can make this city grow by putting in more investment. I congratulate D B Mehta and the new team."
MLA Mohiuddin Bava said, "Today CREDAI has given lot of benefits to society especially for people who buy flats. We respect CREDAI. Pushparaj Jain and his team have done a great job. CREDAI's main objective is to get all the benefits to its members.
"Mangaluru is a growing city. We have airport, sea port and all other connectivities and it is also an educational hub. Today builders are fulfilling housing needs and giving residential apartments to poeple. But there is a rate difference so there is a need for all builders to join together, and CREDAI is doing that."
MLC Ivan D'Souza, mayor Jacintha Alfred, Rohan Monteiro, Ganesh Bangera and others were present.
