Mangaluru, Apr 5: ‘Avige’ a novel in Kannada and ‘Payjana’ a Konkani musical CD were released at Sri Kasimatha in Bengaluru on March 29.
‘Avige’ is a translation of Konkani novel into Kannada. The original was written by Mahabaleshwar Sail as ‘Havarana’ which had won the Vimla V Pai Vishwa Konkani Sahitya Puraskar. The novel has been translated by Sha Ma Krishnaraya. Famous Kannada poet and author Jayantha Kaykini released the book.
The novel depicts the life of a potter man in Goa-Karnataka region and his predicament in modern times where despite much advancement in technology a grave is nearer for him than a school.
Mahabaleshwar Sail released the musical CD which contained the songs based on the poems penned by renowned Konkani poet Bakibab Borkar. Sail recited a few poems.
Puttur Panduranga Nayak sang a song from the CD symbolically. The voice in the CD also has been rendered by Puttur Panduranga Nayak.
Basthi Vamana Shenoy, from Vishwa Konkani Kendra, the publishers of the book, welcomed. Prabhakar Pabhu proposed vote of thanks. Dr Geetha Shenoy, Sha Ma Krishnaraya and GG Shenoy were present among others.
