Panaji, Feb 25: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd's (BSNL) plan to usher in wireless connectivity may soon make the Goan capital Wi-Fi enabled, once the government responds to the company's Rs 8 crore proposal.

''We have submitted a proposal to the state government, which seeks to make Panaji city Wi-Fi enabled so that wireless Internet connections could be accessed. A response is awaited,'' BSNL general manager A K Desarkar said here. ''The project aims to cov er six sq km radius in Panaji,'' he told reporters.

If BSNL's plan comes through, Panaji will be Goa's first city to have wi-fi connectivity.

''At present, there are eight sites in Panaji with this connectivity,'' Desarkar noted.

BSNL officials feel that considering the huge inflow of tourists and corporates into the city, wi-fi connectivity will come as an added advantage. "With 140 new towers planned for this year, we will be able to have 80 per cent penetration in the state," Desarkar said.
