Mangaluru, Mar 31: Giving Tree Trust which had organized a book donation campaign on the occasion of International Book Giving Day on February 14, recently opened a library at Balikashram, Kankanady here with all the 1,500-odd books collected during the campaign. The books were collected during a campaign at City Centre Mall and also from various parts of the city.
The library was inaugurated by Revathi Sanil, HR manager of Mohtisham by cutting the ribbon.
The Giving Tree Trust had conducted the book collection drive in view of setting up a library in Balikashram, an orphanage.
Speaking after the inauguration, Revathi Sanil said, "I really appreciate the spirit of youngsters who came forward to donate books to children. This library will help the children to develop the habit of reading."
Revlimiterz Biking Club, Flying Bandits Riding Club, Casa Grande Apartments, Laxmi College of Nursing, St Aloysius School, Urwa, an Immaculate Conception Church, Urwa were some of major donors of books.
Books like story books, text books, notebooks, novels, encyclopedia, drawing books and travel guides were recieved from the donors.
Murali Krishna, businessman, Zeeshan Ramlan, HR, Infosys and others were present.
Giving Tree Trust was founded on July 19, 2014 in Mangaluru with the aim of helping the underprivileged and marginalized sections of society. It has 35 active members - 25 men and 10 women.
The volunteers will visit the Balikashram every weekend to teach, guide and help the orphan kids to read. Anyone interested in joining hands with Giving Tree Trust in this cause can contact givingtreetrust@gmail.com.
