Moodbidri, Mar 31: The state high court has stayed its own earlier order disqualifying Anil Lobo from Congress, who had been elected as municipal councillor from 21st ward here in 2013.
Krishnaraja Hegde, who had fought the election on a JDS ticket against Lobo, had challenged Lobo's election through the civil court at Karkala. After his petition was dismissed by the court, he had approached the state high court, challenging the lower court order. The high court, after hearing both the sides, had upheld his appeal and disqualified Anil Lobo's membership through a judgment delivered on March 20.
The high court has since granted stay against the operation of the above order for 30 days with effect from March 20. Anil Lobo held a press conference at Press Club here on Monday, where he produced a copy of the court order and explained the turn of events.
Municipal councillor and new chairman of Moodbidri Urban Development Authority, Suresh Kotian, was present at the press conference.
