Bengaluru, Mar 29: Police personnel of Sanjay Nagar police station here, who have investigated the case in which Mahalingappa (35), security guard of the guest house of Khadi Bhandar at Rajmahal Vilas Extension in the city was murdered at around 1 am on Friday March 27, have succeeded in cracking the case.
A minor stands arrested for the murder. The arrest was made on the basis of statements made by family members of the deceased and some locals. The minor accused had hit the security guard with a wooden stump before fleeing.
It is learnt that since the last few weeks, Mahalingappa had developed proximity with the boy's aunt. The boy abhorred this relationship, and often warned Mahalingappa against continuing with it. On Thursday night too, Malingappa had visited the woman in question.
When Mahalingappa left the lady's home in Rajmahal Vilas Extension at around Thursday midnigt, the boy followed him and started a quarrel. After prolonged verbal spat, the boy picked up a wooden stump, smashed it on the head of Mahalingappa, and fled from the scene, leaving behind the profusely bleeding security guard to fend for himself on the road.
During the questioning, the boy has confessed to his crime, the police said. The boy had earlier been involved with theft of bicycle, the police said. After producing him in Juvenile Justice Court, he was sent to rehabilitation centre, the police revealed.
