Priest day and blessing of holy oil celebrated in Udupi

Udupi, Mar 27: The Priest Day of the Udupi diocese, blessing of the holy oils and the holy mass were held at Milagres Cathedral here on Thursday March 26.

During the holy mass, the bishop of the Udupi diocese, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo blessed the holy oils that will be used throughout the year for various sacraments like baptism, confirmation and for sick people.

In his homily, bishop explained the importance of beinga priest in the society and the responsibilities thereof. "Priest works as a mediator between God and people by delivering the words of God." he said.

During the celebration, the priests who attended the mass were asked to stand and renew the vows they made on their ordination day. This was done as a part of the mass so that the priests can again pledge their lives and love to Jesus and his church.

Fr Stany B Lobo, rector of Milagres cathedral, Fr Valerian Mendonca, chancellor of the diocese, Fr John Barboza, Fr Anil D'Souza, PRO Fr. Denis D'sa and other priests were also present.

The priests of 48 churches of the diocese witnessed the celebration of the mass and blessings of the holy oils.
