Manipal: KMC receives prestigious Ramkrishna Bajaj award for quality

Manipal, Mar 26: Kasturba Hospital Manipal, one of the largest healthcare centres in India providing quality tertiary care to both domestic and international patients, was awarded the prestigious IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality (RBNQ) Commendation Certificate 2014 in the healthcare category at the, 'Making Quality Happen - Awards Ceremony' on March 20 at the Y B Chavan Auditorium, Mumbai.

Vishwanathan Anand, former world chess champion and current world runner-up, presented the citation to Preeti Shetty executive operations from Kasturba Hospital. 

Kasturba Hospital, Manipal is the apex teaching hospital attached to Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, an associate hospital of Manipal University is managed by Manipal Health Systems. Kasturba Hospital caters to an average of 2070 outpatients and 206 admissions each day, was adjudged the best on the basis of an evaluation process comprising assessment across parameters such as leadership capabilities, strategy planning, customer and market orientation, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, capable workforce and process management.

Kasturba Hospital, Manipal is ISO 9001: 2000 certified in the year 2005 displaying the strong commitment to continuously improve the quality of services. It was awarded the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs Inc, making it the first hospital in India and sixth hospital in Asia to receive this prestigious certification in 2012.
 
Dr (Col) M Dayananda, medical superintendent and COO of the hospital said, “It is indeed a matter of immense pleasure and honour to receive the prestigious IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality (RBNQ) commendation certificate. With this, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal is once again recognised for its quality care for its patients, ethical and transparent practices, along with high standards of clinical excellence. This commendation certificate is a recognition of the remarkable progress Kasturba Hospital has made since its humble beginnings in 1961 in establishing itself as one of the most preferred referral healthcare centres in Karnataka.

“We will continue our endeavour to improve the quality of services provided. Quality improvement in patient care and services is a continuous process at Kasturba Hospital as we see higher and better levels to strive for,” Dr Dayananda added. Incidentally, Manipal University had won this award for the year 2007.

About the award: In order to recognise excellence, IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Award Trust presents the IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality awards. The IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality awards were presented to 25 organisations across six categories namely health care, education, manufacturing, service, small business and overseas, IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality award instituted in 1995 is possibly the most prestigious national quality award in the country. The awards were named after the late Ramkrishna Bajaj, past president, IMC, and a leading industrialist whose motto was 'trust in quality and business ethics'.
