Kundapur, Mar 26: It is gathered that the district deputy commissioner has directed local tahsildar, Gayatri Nayak, to appear before Karnataka Information Commission for inquiry for her failure to pay up fine imposed on her for failing to comply with provisions of Right to Information (RTI) Act.
A person named Ashok Shettigar had filed application with the tahsildar under RTI Act seeking a copy of NCR of Muchchattu village in the taluk. As the report was not supplied within the prescribed time, he appealed to the assistant commissioner. The assistant commissioner directed the tahsildar to provide the information sought. As the tahsildar continued to ignore this instruction, Shettigar approached Karnataka Information Commission.
The commission, which held hearing on November 22, 2013, asked the tahsildar to supply the information sought. During the subsequent hearing held on August 12, 2014, the commission, after finding that the official had failed to act as per orders, passed orders instructing the concerned to pay a penalty of Rs 2,000 to Shettigar for failure to comply with RTI ACt.
Observing that the tahsildar has failed to either provide necessary information or to pay the fine, the district deputy commissioner has ordered her to personally appear before the commission, it is learnt.
