Bhatkal, Mar 22: Sirsi Government First Grade College Kabaddi team clinched Karnataka University zonal-level Kabaddi tournament by defeating the host Anjuman Degree College & PG centre, Bhatkal by a margin of 25-11 points in the final match played at Anjumanabad, Bhatkal on Saturday, March 21.
Both the teams exhibited their strength and competed for the coveted trophy. Sirsi College team proved its might over the Bhatkal team by presenting a wonderful team work in the final match.
Earlier, Sirsi Government First Grade College team had defeated Honnavar SDM College in the semi-final to enter into the final by 38-18 points. Similarly, Bhatkal Anjuman Degree College & PG centre had defeated Kumta Government First Grade College in second semi-final by 40-17 points.
Honnavar SDM College bagged the third place after defeating Government First Grade College, Kumta by 35 points (41-6).
Shashanth of Government First Grade College Sirsi was awarded with the best all rounder award while Musaib of Anjuman Degree College & PG centre was declared the best raider. Ganesh (SDM College, Honnavar) was awarded as the best catcher.
The tournament was inaugurated by Dr BM Patil, assistant director of Physical education, Karnataka University Dharward on Sunday morning at 10.00 am.
Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen's vice-president, Mohammed Ansar Kasimiji presided over the function. Principal AM Mulla welcomed the gathering. Prof Mustaque Shaikh introduced the guests while physical director Kaleemullah delivered the vote of thanks.
At the inaugural function, guest of honour Moulana Abdul Raqeeb MJ Nadvi, Anjuman Hami-e-Mulsimeen vice-president Ismail Hasan Damudi, Anjuman Degree College secretary Javeed Hussain Armar, Syed Zubair Moulana and many others were present.
Inter-Zonal Kabaddi tournament will begin from Monday March 23.
