Tipper hits scooter - rider killed, pillion rider escapes with injuries

Beltangady, Mar 21: In an accident which occurred near Lord Ayyappa shrine near Guruvayanakere here on Friday March 20, a scooterist died after having been knocked down by a speeding tipper. The deceased has been identified as Chandrashekhar (40), son of Krishna Suvarna from Shifa Villa, Malpe Kola. M Ravi (40), from Kunjarugiri Kurkal Udupi, who was riding the pillion, luckily escaped from imminent danger with minor injuries.

It is learnt that both Chandrashekhar and his friend, Ravi, were returning after participating in the temple festivities at Dharmasthala, when tragedy struck. When they were going in the two-wheeler towards Udupi from Guruvayanakere, a tipper which came from the direction of Karkala hit their vehicle. It is said that after Chandrashekhar fell to the road, rear wheel of the truck crushed him to death. Ravi, who had a providential escape, is being treated for his minor injuries at the local hospital.

A case relating to the incident stands filed in the local police station. Immediately after the accident, hundreds of people had gathered at the spot, creating traffic problems on Guruvayanakere-Karkala state highway for sometime.
