Mumbai, Mar 19: The trailer of the much awaited movie starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma titled 'Bombay velvet was unveiled yesterday just before India-Bangladesh match but failed to rustle up enough excitement.
The trailer shows Johnny Balraj (Ranbir Kapoor) the street fighter and his huge ambition forge ahead to make his dream come true at great personal cost. Rosie Noronha who is an aspiring Jazz singer is seen dressed to the nines in popular fashion of the 60s. Johnny proves that he will do anything to achieve his dream and his love for Rosie is all encompassing too. Soon Johnny has caught the attention of Kaizad Khambatta (Karan Johar) who in his own words says, "Main jo bhi karta hoon khud ke liye karta hoon." Khambatta goes on to use Johnny for his personal gain, while promising him (Johnny) the dream of becoming a 'Bada admi' rich man in return for his efforts.
Under the glare of the dim vintage lights of the 60s the drama unfolds in short quick succession of shots. A struggle ensues, that has Johnny focused on his goal, and Rosie working on keeping her secrets from Johnny. The inevitable end comes with Johnny vowing to kill Rosie himself. Ranbir spoke of his role, saying, "My character is very aggressive, very intense. It's a crime drama set in Bombay of the '50s and '60s, a fictitious love story set against real life events. Johnny is very intense and an angry person. It's a nice way to channelize emotions that I am not and play people so far removed from my own self in characters like these. I am fortunate that Anurag gave me the opportunity."
Based on Gyan Prakash's book Mumbai Fables the cast includes, Kay Kay Menon and Raveena Tandon. The movie will be released on the 15th of May, 2015.
