Puttur, Mar 19: Alleging posting of slanderous posts and comments about Prophet Muhammed Paigambar (PBUH) in social websites, Uppinangady Jumma Masjid president, Haji Kempi Mustafa, has filed a police complaint. He alleged in the complaint that Adesh Shetty, resident of Uppinangady Kote and student of a college in Puttur, had uploaded contemptuous remarks about the Prophet. Based on this, Uppinangady police have registered a case.

Condemning the act of insulting the Prophet, Muslim merchants from Uppingady registered their protest by closing down their shops on Wednesday March 18. In a protest meeting held near the circle adjacent to Uppinangady bus stand, Muslim community of the region urged immediate arrest of the accused. Represenetatives of the community also handed over a memorandum to the police department seeking the arrest of the accused student.

For managing any eventuality, additional police force was rushed to Uppinangady. The protest meeting however, went off peacefully.

Rural police circle inspector, Anil Kulkarni, has been investigating the case under the guidance of Puttur deputy superintendent of police, Bhaskar Rai.
