Mangaluru, Mar 16: Mangaluru Bar Association boycotted the court and conducted a protest against the alleged murder of an advocate in the Allahabad High Court here at court premises in Mangaluru on March 16.
S P Changappa, Mangaluru Bar Association president said, "A lawyer Nabi Ahmed was shot inside the district court premises in Allahabad by a sub-inspector of police, Shailendra Singh and another lawyer Chandan were seriously injured."
"When lawyers don't have protection within the court premises then what can the general public expect? Lawyers are a very important part of the constitution. They help in delivering justice to the people. The central government has to interfere in this particular issue. The Uttar Pradesh government needs to be dismissed and governor rule must be bought. On behalf of the Mangaluru bar council we demand that the government give 1 crore compensation to the family of the deceased and all the treatment expenses of Chandan needs to be paid by the government. We demand this compensation because lawyers don't have PF, gratuity or pension. We are all against such atrocities by the police. National lawyers bar council of India, Karnataka bar council and all of us will protest against this. Justice needs to be meted out at the earliest."
Raghavendra H V, general secretary, Yashodara Karkera, vice president, Suman Sharan, joint secretary, Yathish, treasurer Mangaluru Bar Association president and others were present at the protest.
