Kalaburagi, Mar 14: Former assistant commissioner of the city subdivision here, and current deputy commissioner of Vijayapura city corporation, Harsha Shetty, was arrested by policemen of Brahmapura station here on Friday March 13. He has been accused of transferring ownership of government land to some private individuals and also passing orders for disposing it off.

The disputed land, which was in the name of Wakf Board, had been bought by the government for public works department long back. It is said that Shetty cleared sanction of this land standing in survey No. 109 measuring 8.10 acres to Lalitabai Kulkarni and six of her other family members on March 13, 2013 without having the power to do so. Later, the permission given for disposal of this land was cancelled, as railway divisional office building construction had begun in this site.

Questioning this order, Lalitabai Kulkarni had approached high court. After the high court issued notice to the district deputy commissioner, the present assistant commissioner, Illyas, had registered a case on Thursday at Brahmapura police station.
The police took Shetty into custody on Friday. It is learnt that Brahmapura police circle inspector, K M Sathish, is investigating the case.
