Karwar: Men posing as CBI officers loot ornaments worth Rs 50 lac

Karwar, Mar 14: Four persons, who claimed themselves as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers, gained entry into the residence of a local JDS leader and jeweller on Friday March 13. They then pointed revolvers at family members and made good their escape with ornaments worth about Rs 50 lac and cash amounting to severall thousands of rupees.

The incident occurred at the residence of Anil Pavuskar on M G Road, Kajubagh in the town. Four strangers entered Anil's house at around noon, claiming that they had been deputed by CBI to look into hoarding of three crore rupees in cash at home. Immediately thereafter they brandished their revolvers and asked family members to hand over their cell phones. After collecting phones, they tied up Anil Pavuskar, his wife, Sadhana, daughters, Sureena and Srijala, as well as a domestic servant. They then sifted through all the almirahs, suitcases, etc and fled with ornaments and cash.

Additional superintendent of police, Devaraju, conducted spot inspection, questioned the family, and guided investigation. The police have registered a case and drawn up plans to nab the culprits. The house in question is located a short distance away from the office of the SP, but the police were not aware of the incident till a complaint was made.
