Mangaluru, Mar 8:“The D-Factor for the best development of anyone’s career is Dedication, Determination in addition to Discipline with proper Direction.” said Prof. Byrappa K,Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University on the occasion of the 135th College Day held at St Aloysius College, Mangaluru on March 6.
Prof. Byrapa K encouraged the institution to collaborate with established institutions and motivate the faculty to take up major research proposals. He stressed on maintaining the quality of teaching and making courses faculty friendlier. He said that the Mangaluru University has reduced the number of research papers to two and also provide opportunities to guest lecturers to pursue Ph.D. studies.
Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, in his Presidential address stated that our country is blessed to have most of its population under the age of 25 which will take the country to the peak of prosperity. He said that the essential ingredient of Jesuit education is mentoring which helps the students physically, mentally and emotionally. Jesuit education not only imparts information but also facilitates information to bring transformation. The challenge of today is how to teach, how to lean and how to be creative. The hallmark of every Aloysian is to build bridges to make our society a happy and cared for place to live in and treat each one as our own brother and sister.

The potential students were awarded prizes under 270 categories in different fields. A cultural programme which displayed the talents and potentials of Aloysians was held after the formal programme. The theme was based on coastal tradition and culture like the Tulu Nadu cultural dance, Konkani fisherfolk dance etc .
