Chikmagalur, Mar 7: In protest against the firm stand taken by the district administration not to allow sandal to be applied to the holy graves of saints at Guru Datttreya Baba Budan Dargah and offer other forms of worship there, Fakirs, who had gone there under the leadership of Shah Khadri, returned without performing Uroos there.

The sandal had been taken from the town on Thursday night. On Friday evening, a group of Fakirs led by Syed Ghouse Mohiuddin Shah Khadri reached the main entrance to the cave where the graves are located, with sandal paste. Representatives of Shah Khadri approached office of muzrai department, seeking its nod to perform sandal Uroos at the cave.

District deputy commissioner, B S Shekharappa, said that puja can be performed at the cave as per the Supreme Court directives alone. As the court has ordered status quo, only the Mujawar has the right to perform Uroos procedures inside the cave, he stated.

In view of this, Shah Khadri and other Fakirs performed worship procedures at the gate of the cave. Several Fakirs who had arrived from different parts of the country then exhibited their skills at adventure sports, before the entourage returned without being able to fulfill the purpose for which they had undertaken the pilgrimage.
