Mangaluru, Mar 4: Highly placed sources have revealed to daijiworld that Shriram Yadapaditthaya, who was accused of posting hate comments against Christianity to a news link on Daijiworld's Facebook page, has been arrested.
Sources said that Shriram (27) was arrested in Bengaluru on Tuesday March 3 and has been brought to Mangaluru on Wednesday March 4. He was produced in court later in the evening.
Police refused to divulge any details of the arrest, except that his mobile phone, an HTC model, has been seized.
Shriram has been staying at Balaji Nagar, Uttarahalli, Bengaluru.
Shriram, a native of Shivamogga is facing charges under IT Act for posting abusive comments for the news link 'Mangaluru: Ghar Wapsi not a big issue: Sadhvi Balika Saraswati at Kadri Temple' posted on daijiworld.com's Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/daijiworldnews ) on Sunday March 1.
Some of the comments were deleted as soon as daijiworld received complaints from some of the readers and Facebook users, and Shriram himself deleted all the rest of his abusive comments.
He also posted an apology on the same news link stating that he had made those comments out of 'unknown anger' and said he repented his action.
Following the incident, leaders from Mangaluru diocese met the police commissioner and submitted a memorandum and also filed a complaint in Pandeshwar police station. The Pandeshwar police which immediately began investigation also took the help of Bengaluru cyber crime cell, and Shiram was arrested.
The Pandeshwar police have registered a case against Shriram under Section 66 of IT Act and Sections 153A, 153B and 295A under IPC.
The operation was conducted under the directions of police commissioner S Murugan, DCP (law and order) Santhosh Babu, DCP (crime) Vishnuvardhan and ACP Kalyan Shetty, and led by inspector Dinakar Shetty of Pandeshwar police and his team.
