Mangaluru, Mar 4: Southern railway mazdoor union held a protest in front of Mangaluru central railway station here on Tuesday, March 3.
Speaking at the occasion Anand, secretary SRMU said "Our honorable prime minister introduced 'Swach bharath abhiyan'. People came here and cleaned railway track, but one should see the situation now of drainage water flowing from Wenlock hospital to police quartres and railway quartres. Today in Mangaluru we do not find slum areas railway quartres have become like slums. We work day and night to ensure safety of railway commuters. But since the drainage is open and drain water is accumulated our families are getting affected by malaria and dengue fever"
"MCC is not taking any interest to solve this problem. We have been giving memorandum and complaining to MCC for the past 2 years. But only assurances are given to us. If we block drainage here, then wenlock and police quartres people will get affected as drain water will reverse. But we are not doing that since we do not want to trouble the patients and our police department people. Previously we were getting 1 lac liters of water but now MCC has reduced to 60 thousand liters. We have given one month deadline to MCC. If they do not solve the problem, then we will do a hunger strike and will not allow single train to move from this railway station." he added.
Talai parimal, assistant general secretary SRMU, Vijayan, president SRMU and Rajesh Kumar Singh, treasurer SRMU were present at the protest.
