Mangaluru, Mar 3: Balipa Narayana Bhagavatha, a popular artiste in traditional Thenkuthittu Yakshagana has been selected for Kalkura Lifetime achievement award. The award being presented to Yakshagana artistes recognizing their achievements and service to arts for decades will be presented in a programme proposed to be held at the Don Bosco Hall on Saturday evening, March 7, said S Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of Kalkura prathistana.
77 years old Balipa Bhagavatha learnt the art from his grand father and father Madhava Bhat and served as high grade Bhagavatha for five decades. He served in Padre, Ira, Kudlu and Kateel melas as Bhagavatha and created 30 episodes.
He is well known as an excellent singer of the traditional art. He has earned the love of the audience by his simplicity and commitment. The award will consist of a certificate and a gold medal said Pradeep Kumar Kalkura.
