Puttur, Feb 23: Invitation extended to Sri Raghaveshwara Swamiji of Ramachandrapur Mutt for the Brahmakalashotsava of Lord Sahasralingeshwara Temple at Uppinangady near here has kicked up another controversy, it is gathered. The Swamiji has been extended invitation for the religious meeting being held at the temple on Monday February 23.
Commissioner in the department of Hindu religious institutions and charitable endowments, Pallavi Akurathi, has served notice on the organizers of the programme, objecting to the invitation extended to the Swamiji, who is facing a criminal case. It is said that the commissioner had received several representations from people who were unhappy at the participation of the Swamiji in this programme. The said notice was served on the executive officer of the temple on Saturday with instructions to strictly adhere to the instructions.
The Brahmakalashotsava Samiti presided over by local MLA, Shakuntala Shetty, had unanimously decided to invite the Swamiji for the event. As of now, only a complaint has been filed against the Swamiji, and no charge sheet has been filed. Hence the concerned are of the opinion that they were in order in inviting the Swamiji to the function.
It is learnt that the committee has decided to go ahead with the programme without making any ammends. Shakuntala Shetty feels that once the Swamiji has been invited by the committee, it would be improper to cancel it. She said that the programme will go ahead as scheduled earlier.
