Bantwal, Feb 20: A youth was allegedly assaulted at Vittal bus stand here on night of Thursday February 19. The assaulters also damaged the bike belonging to the victim.
It is reported that the incident has created tense atmosphere in the town.
Abdul Naveed (18) from Okkethur is the person injured. He has been admitted to a private hospital in Vittal.
As per reports, Naveed had come to the bus stand in his bike. It is said that an argument erupted between Naveed and a bus driver when the latter was trying to take reverse. Prompted by the argument, Naveed was allegedly assaulted.
It is said that a disagreement had erupted between two groups in connection to some cattle trafficking in the afternoon. Even as the circle inspector was trying to pacify the two groups, the assault took place which further worsened the matter. The timing of the assault created tension in the town.
People from both the groups gathered at the police station, and soon the public also started assembling there. Police had to resort to mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. Circle inspector Belliappa managed to control the situation.
Belliappa speaking to the media said that the situation is completely under control and extra police personnel would be deployed if need arose.
