Mangaluru: First rain of new year visits Karnataka coast

Mangaluru, Feb 19: The first rain of the year 2015 was experienced in Beltangady and Sullia taluks on Wednesday, February 18.

Several villages like Bajagoly and Hosmar in Karkala, and Miyar near Moodbidri in these two taluks experienced drizzle on Wednesday evening, while Aladangady in Beltangady taluk got good rain.

Hailstorm was reported from Edu, Kadari, Kervashe, Nooralbettu villages in Karkala taluk. Naravi also received some rain, while Ujire and nearby places had cloudy weather coupled with wind.

The landing of few aircrafts was delayed at Bajpe airport in the morning because of fog. Air India Express arriving from Dubai and Jet airways circled in the sky for some minutes before touching down.

Lightening and thunder was also experienced in many places of these taluks.

The meteorological department however, said that the state will continue to have dry weather during the next two days.

    Is this the time to have rains?
    Does it have any bad effect on rice harvesting and other fruits flowering (seasonal fruits)
    No doubt the drizzle will increase humidity to already sticky weather.

    It is good news. Hope rains will continue further. Pray this will not hamper farmers. I mean any cultivation.
