Mangaluru, Feb 18: "The food and civil supplies department has given a deadline of only 15 days more to collect the new ration card from the department. As many as 4000 ration cards are yet to be collected even after repeated reminders." This was revealed by Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim in a press meet held at DC office on February 18 in the city.
Addressing the press, the DC said, " Many apply for new cards but do not come to collect them. As many as 4000 APL cards are yet to collected. We have sent reminders through SMS and calls. This is the last month to collect them or they will get cancelled. Anyone from the family can be sent to collect the card, provided they are above 12 years old."
Speaking at the occasion, Sharanappa from the food and civil supplies department DK said, " In DK district a total of 77,670 applications were received. Among them 17,232 applications are pending, out of which 5,976 applicants have furnished the necessary documents and 11,256 applicants have not furnished proper identity documents. Hence 15 days extra are provided to submit the necessary documents to Mangaluru One/Photo centre and to gram panchayats. Failure to do so would lead to cancellation of the card."
" All the BPL families are provided free gas connection through local administration and also under the CSR scheme total of 6,100 BPL card holders can avail free gas connection. All the eligible beneficiaries are requested to furnish a photocopy of their ration card, bank account details, photo and other necessary documents to the dealers and avail the facility. In case this is not done within a few days, kerosene supply to the BPL card holders will be stopped."
" Also many measures are taken to stop actions of APL ration card holders availing the BPL facilities. Names of all the BPL card holders are placed in all the distribution centres and ration shops. In case any breach of the rule is noticed, the complaint can be taken to the food and civil supplies department."
Other members of food and civil supplies department were also present at the occasion.
