Mumbai, Jan 18: A Special TADA court here has adjourned Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt's probation hearing till February 6.
Dutt appeared in court to apply for bail in a last attempt to avoid going to jail.
Dutt wants the court to release him on probation instead of sentencing him to a five-year prison term.
The actor has been found guilty under the Arms Act in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.
His lawyers are likely to invoke a little known act called the Probation of Offenders Act, which allows a court to release on probation a person for good behaviour.
This act is helpful for a person as long he is convicted for an offence that is not punishable either by a death sentence or by life imprisonment.
To prove his good conduct and character Sanjay Dutt has submitted testimonials from veteran actor Dilip Kumar, former Mumbai sheriff Nana Chudasama, anti-drug activist Yusuf Merchant and child activist Vipula Kadri.
