Kundapur, Feb 4: A person, who has been identified as the prime accused in torching a provision store, a godown, and vehicles on the night of January 21 at Gangolli has been arrested. He was arrested from near Trasi near Gangolli on Sunday morning, it is gathered.

The arrested man has been identified as Junaid (23), a resident of Babashah Mohalla in Gangolli. He was produced in the court, upon which, he was remanded to judicial custody till February 13.
A shop named Venkateshwara Stores belonging to Venkatesh Bhaskar Shenoy, a godown, Chevrolet Enjoy car parked in front of the show owner's house, and a Ritz car and 407 vehicle were set on fire by the miscreants at about 2 am on January 21. Following the incident, tense sitation prevailed in the area, and a bandh called by some groups put normal life out of gear.
The accused had disappeared immediately after the above incidents, and the police had used all possible methods to find out his whereabouts. The arrested operation was conducted by Gangolli police sub-inspector, Subbanna, under the orders of deputy superintendent of police, Manjunath Shetty, and guidance of Byndoor police circle inspector, Sudarshan.
The police have also confiscated a Maruti Omni vehicle allegedly used in the above crime by the accused.
