Udupi, Feb 2: A student of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) died after he fell from the fourth floor of an apartment at Manipal here on Monday February 2. The circumstances that led to his death are uncertain, with two different versions emerging.
The deceased, identified as T Punith Reddy (20), son of T Rajashekar Reddy of Andhra Pradesh, was a computer science student at MIT.
It is learnt that Punith fell from the fourth floor of the apartment at around 3.30 am on Monday, and breathed his last in the hospital some hours later.
Punith's father Rajashekar Reddy who resides in Andhra was informed by phone about the incident, after which he came to Manipal.
In a complaint filed in the Manipal police station, Reddy expressed suspicions that other students had pushed Punith from the balcony of the apartment.
However, police sources said that a party was held on Sunday night, and Punith, in an inebriated state, smashed the television of his roommates, who left him alone. A few minutes later, when he saw some people coming, he grew frightened and jumped off the balcony, police sources said.
A case has been registered in Manipal police station and investigations are on.
