Chikkamagaluru, Feb 2: A mega event called Souharda Sangama 2015 was conducted by the NR Pura unit of International Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations (IFKCA) at Deepthi School grounds, NR Pura on Saturday, January 31.
The event was presided over by Fr Jose Vettikal, vicar of Little Flower Cathedral Church, NR Pura.
Michael Sadananda Baptist, state general secretary of IFKCA inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. D N Jeevraj, former minister and MLA of Sringeri constituency and Fr A V Jacob of St George Syrian Jacobite church were the chief guests along with other priests from various Christian denomination churches of NR Pura.
P J Antony, former zilla panchayat president in his inaugural speech elaborated about the main intention in organizing the programme and the way IFKCA has worked all these years for the benefit of the Christian community at large and also of D N Jeevraj's contribution in getting government schemes like funds for churches, etc.
Michael Baptist spoke about the need for communal harmony, social activities of IFKCA and lauded the efforts of Ronald Colaco, president of IFKCA in forming the Karnataka state Christian Development Council when B S Yeddyurappa was the chief minister of Karnataka.
Fr Joby Jacob, vicar St Mary's Orthodox Syrian church, Fr Stany Lobo, vicar, St Antonys Church, Fr Jhon Nellivila Vicar, St Peter's Catholic Malankara Church, K M Gangadhar Gowda, president, Vokkaligara Sangha, Shanthkumar, member taluk panchayat, Ashish Kumar, former president, town panchayat, T V Vijay, Chevaliar, M P Sunny, president of IFKCA, NR Pura spoke on the occasion.
D N Jeevraj and Fr A V Jacob, Kor Episcopa were felicitated along with other former and present elected members of the community. Around 35 senior citizens, along with donors and community members who have excelled in service activities were also felicitated.
The highlight of the event was a mega fireworks show and a vibrant mega cultural event by Shads Music World from Mangaluru.
More than seven thousand people witnessed the mega event.
