Kasargod, Feb 2: Tension prevailed here on the night of Sunday February 1 after stones were allegedly pelted at vehicles returning from RSS Vijayshakti rally and convention.
In retaliation to the alleged stone-pelting, a group went on rampage, damaging several vehicles, houses and shops from Povval to Bovikan by pelting stones.
Sources said that stones were thrown at a bus carrying RSS workers at Arikkady. In protest of the incident, the road was blocked and traffic came to a complete halt for several hours on Kasargod-Mangaluru national highway.
Tense atmosphere prevailed at Kumble, Bovikan, Arikkady and Povval. Sources said that the police had to resort to lathi charge to bring the situation under control.
RSS Vijayshakti
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) held a massive 'Vijayshakti' rally and convention on Sunday evening at Kasargod Government College grounds.
Over 25,000 RSS workers gathered for the convention and participated in the rally on foot.
This is for the first time in Kasargod that such a rally was held by the RSS.
The rally passed through Vidyanagar, Hosabettu, Uliyatadka, and Ramdas Nagar, culminating with the convention.
Brigadier K N Rai from Mangaluru presided over the convention. Major B A Nanjappa Kodagu, K K Balram, Gopalkrishna Bhat, Vaman Shenoy and others were present.
