Puttur, Jan 31: Sending out a clear message to its detractors over the controversy surrounding the launch of the Bharatiya Hindu Parishad (BHP), the state Congress leadership on Saturday January 31 sacked its Puttur block president Hemanath Shetty who had launched the BHP.
The BHP was formed and inaugurated on January 14 under the leadership of Hemanath Shetty, purportedly to counter the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and garner Hindu votes.
Since then, senior party leaders in the Congress, including Janardhan Poojary, have vehemently denied that BHP had anything to do with the Congress. The party insisted that it was secular and that it did not encourage religion-based groups.
In a letter signed by KPCC president Dr Parameshwar, the Congress stated that Fazal Raheem would replace Hemanath Shetty as the president of Puttur block Congress with immediate effect.
Fazal Raheem has also been directed to begin the task of uniting the Congressmen at the block level under the direction of the Congress DK district committee and local leaders.
