Muscat, Jan 29: The Mangalorean Catholic Centre of the Parish (MCCP – Sts Peter and Paul Church - Ruwi) successfully organized its 23rd annual sports day for its members and their families on Friday January, 23 at the Wadi Kabir Sports Ground under the leadership and guidance of president Prescilla Menezes and the executive committee members of Team 23.
A combination of three spectacular sports - cricket, volleyball and throwball were played by at least 250 members with the remaining members of their families motivating and cheering them.

All arrangements were made in a way so convenient for any member to be pleased. The enjoyable and memorable day started with registration counters that opened at 9 am sharp handled by executive members Shyla Machado, Flavia Castelino, Neslin Moras accompanied by the experienced registration desk volunteers. Early birds registration was the excitement for both old and new members to flock in, for an exciting chance to enter the lucky draw.

Alongside hot tea and coffee with mouthwatering sumptuous breakfast consisting of idlis, vadas and sambar with chutney were completely dedicated at providing the best refreshments, catered by Blue Pot Caterers managed by Kiran. Simultaneously, Dynet, a known multi-talented youth in the community showed up with her new hidden talent of managing the music. During the day budding talent Andril assisted DJ Dynet.

Suraj Rebello with Dolly Gomes, the sporting specialists of the community, kick-started with a brief explanation and teams formation, along with Dolly, the sporting manager. The duo complimented each other to plan and execute the entire day’s event bang on time. Host Praveen Niddodi, a new face on MCCP platform, kept each and every person at the venue entertained.

The inauguration was initiated at 11:30 am by Praveen Niddodi in his flawless, humourous flow of mother tongue Konkani. The inauguration was done in a unique manner with the MCCP-Muscat cutout with the logo 'Save Konkani, Create Novel Society’ being attached to the tri-colour helium balloons to give the celebration flavor of Indian Republic Day, and let into the air. This part of the programme was graced by our known senior and pious member of MCCP Denis Mascarenhas, the managing director of Prestige Project LLC, who generously supported the community event.

The inauguration began with a very meaningful prayer by the spiritual secretary Flavia Castelino. Welcome note, proposed by vice-president - sports and finance Edward Mendonca, brought in a warm sensation in the hearts of the gathered.

The most-awaited stress buster game, cricket in the men’s category started at 12 noon, divided into four teams namely Omzoorche Bokul, Bendoorche Vandor, Perlache Tharle, Byndoorche Gaindole. The ladies did not shy away from hitting the ball, roll and run to catch a hit. The exuberant teams were Panglache Ponpale, Vitlachi Mutlim.

Not to be left behind, kids below 6th standard played hit the wicket in two teams - Kuloorche Zalaryo and Gurpurche Moos - under the guidance of coach / team managers Ivan Misquith and Jason Andrade. The kids expressed happy faces and some tremendous spirit.

The matches were even more exciting thanks to the lovely interactive humour-filled commentary in Konkani by Praveen Niddodi, Flavy D'Souza and Lancy Lobo.

Right after the sixes and strikers was the smashing and tossing, the game of volleyball played by 48 men. The five teams that participated were were Ammembolche Almbie, Cordelche Madiyo, Pernalche Miryaam, Kodiyalche Kelmbe, and Kundapurche Naarl.

Food was served with grace led by executive member general secretary Shyla Machado. The opulent delicious traditional food was catered by Wilber managing, the only Mangalorean specialty restaurant, and the lunch was sponsored by Denise Mascarenhas.

At 5:30 pm sharp began the war of the females in the game of throwball. Face-off between 4 teams - Barkurchim Girbujiyo, Urwachim Parve, Karkolchim Kurlyiim, Bondelchim Bathyo - were played outstandingly by the women.
