Mangaluru, Jan 27: A festive atmosphere pervaded Car Street here on Tuesday January 27 as thousands gathered to bathe in the colours of Okkuli, the final day of the Car Festival of Lord Ventkataramana Temple.
Myriad colours rained on Car Street as men, women and youngsters of all ages drenched themselves in blissful abandance. Pink, green, yellow, red, blue - a riot of colours covered each and every person from head to toe.
The celebrations were a total feast to the sense as people danced amidst the beating of drums, even as the idol of the Temple deity was carried on a golden palanquin.
DJs and Nasik bands added more spark to the event along with water tankers that drenched the jubilant crowd.
Vasant puja and other rituals were peformed on the occasion inside the Temple premises.
The annual five-day festival is special to the Gowd Saraswat Brahmin (GSB) community and is a commemoration of the divine union of Lord Venkataramana and Goddess Padmavathi.
The main celebration consists of the Car Festival and carrying of the deity on a palaquin around the city.
