Shilpa Hegde: Mangaluru-origin lady in President Obama's retinue

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Jan 27: When Barack Obama visited India this week, officials from various departments from his administration accompanied him. One of these officials was Shilpa Hegde of Mangaluru origin.

Shilpa works as a senior assistant staff secretary at the White House, the seat of the US President, and has been serving there for years in different capacities. When Obama travels outside his country, she becomes part of the team that accompanies him. Shilpa Hegde had come to India during the US President's just-concluded trip.

Shilpa was born and brought up in the USA, but she visits Perdoor and Mangaluru every year with her parents, said sources close to Shilpa.

Shilpa joined the Democratic Party after her studies in political science from University of North Carolina. She was part of 'Obama for America', the presidential campaign of Barack Obama in 2008 in North Carolina area in the capacity of field organizer. In 2009, she worked as a research analyst with the Atlas Project and in April 2010, she became the assistant director in the White House and served in this position till August 2011. Thereafter, she served as the assistant staff secretary in the White House for two years, after which she was promoted to the level of senior assistant staff secretary in July 2014.

She is the daughter of Vidya Hegde and Dr Sadananda Hegde, the brother of B Vasanthi S Shetty, former HoD of OBG department at K S Hegde hospital in Deralakatte, originally hailing from Perdoor in Udupi.

Her father Dr Sadananda Hegde, a former student of KMC, is a well-known doctor in the US.

Dr Subhash Chandra Shetty from Mangaluru who is relative of the Hegdes says that Shilpa loves Tulu despite being born and brought up in the USA and attempts to speak in Tulu at times.

As rightly said we all prepared to be the god fathers to those who are successful in life, but what about......` , be proud of them but also take ownership for the bad ones from our societies.`.neither any political/religious/teaching leader ever owned their responsibilities in failures.

Victory has a thousand fathers but defeat is an orphan. Indians succeed in the USA or other western countries because of their own initiatives, not because of where they originate from. Western culture is an open culture which encourages success. In India we succeed in-spite of our government which has every characteristic of being a parasite. Yes, be proud of them but also take ownership for the bad ones from our societies.

It is the great U.S.A gave opportunities to those strive hard in their respective fields. Credit goes to America's citizens and their leadership in their resolve to offer best opportunities to the deserved persons.

After all Shilpa Hegde acknowledged Daijiworld website by commenting her citizenship.

Where as in India if one goes up the other pulls down.

Just like ants crawling one over the other to reach their goal.

Ants do not crawl over another ant to reach their goal. In fact Ants are the creatures with highest discipline.
Actually it is the Crabs which always pull one another's legs and do not allow other crabs to go ahead. That is why Indian mentality is called " Crab-Mentality".

Shilpa Hegde is an American Citizen, and not American-Indian because India does not recognize dual Citizenship.

Louiana Governor Bobby Jindal said , we came to US to become Americans and not Indian-Americans.

Satya Nadella has never ever spoken about him being an Indian, in spite of Indian Media going ga ga about his Indian origin.

These people succeeded in life as a result of a strong platform available in US for people of any skills.

There are plenty of Shetty's, Hegde's ,Rao's, Pai's , Shenoy's, Lobo's, Menezes,Poojary's, etc in US who are doing extremely well in their respective fields, however i don't think they will ever give credit to India for their Success.

Its high time we give credit for people who live and work in Mangalore who have excelled in their respective fields.

    Ms. Disha Rita:

Difference lies in what you want to do to the country. Sonia wants to divide and rule. If you are educated enough you should know that we were thought about equality during our school days. but as you grow up you are taught about Secularism (which means only support the minority.

And I guess that she still has a Italian passport and not Indian and so does Rahul.

FYI : Shilpa Hegde is not an Indian but she is of Indian Origin born in the US. Though her parents are from Mangalore, India. She is not!

Nice to know that you do acknowledge your heritage. However, saying your hometown in India in spite of your birth in the U.S. needs correction. Would you agree? Since you are in a pretty responsible position with the U.S. Government, I think, you should be technically correct too right:-)
