Bengaluru police arrest top Bodo militant; big catch, say Assam officials

Bengaluru, Jan 24 (Agencies): Bengaluru police on Friday evening arrested a suspected top Bodo militant from Cottonpet. The arrest was made based on the inputs from Assam police, who is expected to send a team to the City to take him into their custody.

According to a PTI report, the arrested militant has been identified as NDFB-Songbijit's top leader Burlung Bhutur.

"The militant also known as Birkhang Basumatary was directly involved in the killing of eight Adivasis at Lungsung on December 23 and six Hindi-speaking persons at Serfanguri in Kokrajhar district of Assam on January 16 last year," IGP L R Bishnoi told PTI, terming the arrest arrest as a "big catch."

The NDFB(S) had launched an attack on adivasis in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts on December 23 last following which there was retaliatory violence and police firing resulting in the killing of 81 persons.

Earlier on January 16 last year six Hindi-speaking persons were shot dead after the armed insurgents pulled down around 12 passengers from a bus coming from to Shillong and opened fire on them at Athiabari under Serfanguri police station.

When there is a strong PM and a strong government at center, the local police too gets encouraged to work in coordination with their counterparts from other states, ultimately delivering what is best for the nation. Hope Congress led govt. in Karnataka does not interfere.
