Chennai, Jan 10: SIFAA or the South Indian Actors' Association, on Friday, declared the demands made by 7 distributors on the leading actor Rajinikant to be grossly unfair. The distributors claimed to have suffered up to 70% losses by investing in this venture.
They even threatened to go on an indefinite fast if their demands were not met and either the actor or the producers paid them their money. Naddigar Sanga (SIFAA) issued the statement, " "The success of any film lies in the hands of the audience. Just like every other business, loss and gain is also part of film business. Lingaa was one of the highly anticipated films and was expected to do well. But it's unfair to approach the hero of the film for losses,"
Directed by KSRavikumar and starring Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty alongside Rajinikant, the producers had apparently claimed that the movie would be an undoubted success, therefore enticing many distributors to borrow heavily from the market. Distributors like M Reuben, claimed to have poured in up to 4.60 crore rupees for the rights to screen the movie in various theatres alone. The distributors also said that with the usual Rajinikant movie that succeeds, they usually gain up to 40% profit. They had hoped that such a windfall would have proven extremely benifitial to them, but since the movie has barely made Rs 2 crores since its release the distributors have suffered a huge financial blow.
Rajinikant has been known to have reimbursed his distributors when two of his films had not done as well as expected in the past. The distributors therefore were expecting him to go the extra mile this time as well and have demanded he intervene on their behalf to the producers and get them their money.
