Mangaluru, Jan 10: Karnataka State Human Rights Commission member C G Hungund made a surprise visit to the district Wenlock hospital here on Saturday Janaury 10.
After his inspection of the hospital, speaking to daijiworld, he expressed displeasure over the shortage of paramedical and medical staff especially of group D workers at the hospital. He said that if this shortage was filled, then the hospital could flourish. "After Bangalore, this is one hospital that has a good paediatric center and a separate obstetrics department," he said.
He mentioned that maintenance of the hospital was very good.
"The existing building does not cater to the needs of other patients like ortho treatment and some specific surgeries owing to scarcity of space. Probably in due course of time they might shift the ortho and trauma departments elsewhere to accommodate other patients," he said.
When it was asked if he received any complaints about the hospital, he said, "I told you about the general condition. I have not received any complaints nor have I noticed any lapse in the hospital."
He added that there was one patient who suffered from carcinoma and that there was delay in taking care of that patient. The patient was immediately asked to shift to the cardiothoracic ward, he said.
Regarding staff shortage in the hospital, he said that he would take a statement from the district surgeon and write to the government about the matter.
DHO Rajashewari Devi, Balakrishna Rai, chairman of Human Rights Federation of India (NGO) and its members were present.
