Sullia, Jan 10: In a sad incident which occurred at Sunbrahmanya PU College, a lecturer suffered cardiac arrest after coming to attend for duties on Friday January 9 morning, and breathed her last while being taken to a hospital.
Krishnakumari K N (47), a history lecturer of Subrhamanya PU College had arrived at the college as usual at 9.15 am on Friday. However, within a short while thereafter, she complained of acute chest pain. Her colleagues took care of her and arranged to take her to hospital but she did not survive the journey to hospital.
Krishnakumari was a student of Subrhmanya PU College in the past. She had worked as a teacher in the high school section of this college later, before getting promotion as history lecturer. She was a multi-talented personality, and had got involved with plays, Yakshagana, dance performances etc. She was a member of Subrahmnya Jacees, and was one among the two persons from the state to have secured Himalayan Wood Badge meant for scouts and guides teachers.
A condolence meeting was held thereafter at the college, after which holiday was declared as a mark of respect for the deceased.
Several students, who were aggrieved by the fact that their lecturer could not get timely treatment because of the absence of a permanent medical officer in the primary health centre of Subrahmanya, demanded for posting a permanent medical officer there immediately. Thousands of pilgrims visit this temple town on a daily basis, and the place does not have any experienced doctors doing private practice, they pointed out.
